A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2014-15 at Palampur to evaluate a new genotype of linseed viz. 'KL-241' in comparison to 'Baner' and 'T-397'. The new entry 'KL-241' was significantly superior to national check 'T-397' in term of almost all growth and yield attributes viz. plant stand, number of capsules/plant and 1000-seed weight. However, number of primary and secondary branches and seeds/capsule were not significantly influenced due to genotypes. 'Baner' (Zonal Check) was at par with 'KL-241' for plant stand, number of capsules/plant and seed yield of linseed. 'KL-241' registered 137.9 and 10.2% higher seed yield over 'T-397' and 'Baner', respectively. Maximum net returns and B:C ratio of INR 10383/ha and 1.18, respectively, were obtained under 'KL-241', which was followed by zonal check-'Baner'.Keywords

Sowing of suitable variety at optimum time is of primary importance among various factors responsible for higher yield of linseed. To ascertain the optimum date of sowing for linseed genotypes, an experiment comprising of three dates of sowing (i.e. October last week, November 2nd week and November 3rd week) and four genotypes (viz. 'RLC-100', 'KL-221', 'LC-54'and 'Janaki') was conducted at Palampur during rabi 2006-07. The crop sown on October last week gave significantly higher yield over November sown crop because of higher plant stand, growth and more capsules per plant. 'KL-221'and 'LC-54' being at par with zonal check (Janaki) resulted in significantly taller plants and higher primary branches and seed yield. 'KL-221' yielded significantly higher over other tested genotypes when it was sown during October last week.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted at experimental farm of Oilseed Section, CSK HPKV, Palampur in RBD keeping 9 treatments, comprising of three linseed varieties ('Bhagsu', 'Surbhi'&'Baner') and three nitrogen levels (10, 20 and 30 kg/ha) to study the influence of nitrogen on linseed varieties under utera condition. Variety 'Baner' being at par with 'Bhagsu' had recorded significantly more plant height, higher number of primary branches/plant, capsules/plant and seed yield of linseed (538 and 514 kg/ha, respectively). Nitrogen fertilization at 30 kg/ha was proved to be significantly best for recording significantly highest plant stand, growth, yield attributes and yield of linseed (610 kg/ha). Interaction of varieties and nitrogen levels was significant on seed yield. 'Baner' behaved statistically similar to 'Bhagsu' when supplied with 30 kg N/ha for significantly higher seed yield of linseed. 45.4 and 43.1% respective increase in the seed yield was recorded with these combinations over 'Surbhi' grown with same nitrogen level.Keywords

Study was conducted at Palampur for three continuous rabi seasons to find out the economic viability of linseed based intercropping associations. Pooled data revealed that sowing of wheat with linseed either at 2:2, 6:4 or 4:4 row ratio resulted in significantly higher linseed equivalent yield as compared to sole linseed or wheat. Sowing of wheat with linseed in any of the row ratio (i.e. 2:2, 4:4 and 6:4) was statistically similar to sowing of linseed as pure crop in achieving significantly higher net returns and B:C ratio over rest of the treatments. Linseed with lentil in 6:4 row ratio and sowing of wheat as pure crop were also at par for net returns. Higher values of production and economic efficiencies were obtained with wheat: linseed intercropping either at 4:4 or 6:4 followed by sole linseed. Economic parameters like relative&additional profit and profit equivalent ratio were more in wheat: linseed at 4:4, 6:4 and 2:2 row ratios as compared to conventional practice of sowing sole crop of wheat with the amount equivalent to raise sole wheat by respective intercropping practices. The sole cropping of linseed was equally good as compared to sole wheat on same area.Keywords

2, 4D 0.5 kg/ha, metsulfuronmethyl 3 g/ha and carfentrazone 10 g/ha each immediately after and 2, 4 and 6 days after clodinafop 60 g/ha were compared to clodinafop alone and untreated check for control of weeds in wheat. Phalaris minor, Avena ludoviciana, Poa annua, Vicia sativa, Anagallis arvensis, Ranunculus arvensis and Coronopus didymus were the important weeds associated with wheat crop. All herbicidal treatments were significantly superior to untreated check in reducing P. minor, Poa annua and A. ludoviciana. Except 2, 4D and carfentrazone immediately after clodinafop, all herbicides completely killed Phalaris minor. 2,4D four days after and metsulfuron immediately after clodinafop gave significantly lower count of V. sativa during 200506 and 200607, respectively. All treatments except clodinafop alone were superior to weedy check in suppressing A. arvensis and R. arvensis. All treatments controlled C. didymus effectively. Application of 2, 4D four days after clodinafop gave maximum yield. However, all other treatments except 2, 4D two days after metsulfuron six days after and carfentrazone four days after clodinafop during 2005 were at par with 2,4D four days after clodinafop. Weeds reduced wheat grain yield by 38.8%.Keywords
